New Year, New Decade, New Priorities: Resolve to Put Tyre Safety First

It’s a new year, new decade, and another chance to start anew with fresh resolve to change the things we can and move on from the things we can’t. In this spirit, Tiger Wheel & Tyre reminds motorists that tyre safety is the number one thing you can control on your vehicle and encourages you to make it a priority.

Tyre safety starts with three simple things:

  1. Properly inflated tyres. Always ensure tyres are inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressures. Properly inflated tyres not only affect vehicle safety and performance, but also last longer, and reduce your vehicle’s petrol consumption. Bonus tip: inflate your tyres with nitrogen for cooler running, longer lasting tyres.
  2. Sufficient tread depth. The minimum legal tread depth is 1mm, but you should replace your tyres before they wear as low as that. Insufficient tread will result in a marked drop in performance, in the form of increased braking distances, loss of traction, aquaplaning in wet conditions, and may result in a blowout.
  3. Regularly rotate, balance and align your wheels and tyres. Most manufacturers recommend you do this every 10 000km or more often if you notice signs of vibration, or the steering pulling to one side, and/or uneven tyre wear.

While you’re checking tyre pressures, tread depth, and general tyre health, don’t forget to check the spare tyre too! For more information and tips on tyres or to find your nearest Tiger Wheel & Tyre fitment centre, visit the website www.twt.to.
